MOTOCROSS MXGP OF GREAT BRITAIN 2014
GP8 MOTOCROSS: GREAT BRITAIN
Podiums for Clement Desalle and Arnaud Tonus
Both runner ups during the Grand Prix of Great Britain this weekend in Matterley Basin, Clement Desalle and Arnaud Tonus consolidate their second place positions in the World Championships. They will now move to France and Saint Jean d’Angely for the ninth round of the series.
Clement Desalle
Winner two weeks ago in Spain, Clement Desalle had a perfect qualifying race on Saturday, winning easily on one of the best tracks of the series. On Sunday the Belgian rider struggled a little bit in the first moto, and lost time when he crashed during the race. Third in the first heat, he got the holeshot in the second race and won, securing a second position overall. “Yesterday was a perfect day. I started second in the first moto but Frossard passed me and then in the first three or four laps I wasn’t riding so well. I had a big crash and hit my head on the ground, hurting my neck a little bit. I was really disappointed with that moto because I should have done much better and in the end I missed the overall win because of it. I had some physio before the second race and things went better. I concentrated on my riding and made some mistakes in the middle of the moto but when I saw ‘four laps’ on the pitboard I really focussed and found some good laps again. We will keep working for the next races and I’m positive for future GPs. It is a good feeling to be winning motos like this,” said the Suzuki rider. Coming back to the GP’s in front of his home crowd, Tommy Searle finished in a strong fifth overall. Steven Frossard, second in the opening moto unfortunately did not finish the second round after a crash near the start.

Despite a very bad start in race one, Arnaud Tonus came back to fifth in the first race. Combining this with a second place, the Swiss rider secured the second position overall. “This track is nice to ride and I always enjoyed racing here. I had a very bad start in the first race, and was only thirteenth after one lap, but I found a good rhythm to advance to fifth, which was not so bad after such a bad start. The second race was much better; I finished second and during the first part of the race I could stay close to Herlings; he was a little faster but I’m happy with my ride and my speed. Next weekend we’ll move to St Jean for the French GP; it’s a kind of home GP for me and I always got good results there,” analysed the Kawasaki rider. Fourth overall and tight in the points standings with second and third places, Jordi Tixier passed Dylan Ferrandis in the series and the two Frenchmen are now looking forward to their home GP.
Arnaud Tonus
In the European MX2 series, Belgium Brent Van Doninck claimed his first ever win with two-second places. The Scott rider is back in third position in the series; next round for the EMX2 is Italy in three weeks time.
