Fourth consecutive podium for Arnaud Tonus

The GP of Italy was a popular event, numerous fans visited Maggiora creating a unique atmosphere at last weekend’s GP. Swiss rider, Arnaud Tonus collected his fourth consecutive podium in the MX2 class, and is a strong second in the series.

A few hours after he confirmed his move to the United States to spend the  next two seasons racing with the prestigious Kawasaki Pro Circuit team, Arnaud Tonus enjoyed once more the podium celebration finishing third in the tenth round of the World Championship. “I had a good start in the first race. I was in the top three and was quickly second but the leader was already gone; I made a few mistakes, so it was impossible to catch him. My second start was not so good, and in this race it was difficult to pass as they flattened the track in some places. Everyone had the same lines and I lost too much time behind Seewer so it was not possible to catch Tixier in the closing laps. Overall it’s not a bad weekend, even if I had a bad qualifying session, as I crashed on the first lap and only got the seventeenth gate,” explained the likeable Swiss rider who is tight in the points with Jordi Tixier. The KTM rider got his fourth podium of the season in Italy, his best GP so far placing him third in the standings. I’m very happy with my GP, the jumps are pretty good here and you can have a lot of fun. I took two good starts so I didn’t need to pass too much but the track was quite slippery so you had to be careful. Second overall is my best result this season, so hopefully I will continue this way” said Jordi. With Dylan Ferrandis and Jeremy Seewer fourth and seventh overall, it was a very good MX2 GP for the Scott athletes.

In the MXGP class, Antonio Cairoli and his thirty thousand fans won the battle again the rest of the world! The Italian lead both races from the first corner to the finish line, and celebrated as a true hero on the podium. In second at the beginning of the first race, Clement Desalle crashed on a jump and was lucky to walk away without any seriously injuries; the Belgian rider suffered some wrist pain but was able to secure a fourth overall. Frenchman Steven Frossard got a podium result in race one but retired in race two, suffering from stomach troubles, while Tommy Searle finished seventh overall despite a crash at the start of the second race.
