Nationals at Southwick

The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series landed in Southwick, MA last weekend for what was to be the last pro national ever to be run at the famous Moto-X 388 track.  Fans packed the facility to capacity to see the last race at a track that has been a staple on the pro tour for over 30 years.

450MX Class

SCOTT goggle athlete Andrew Short came out swinging in Southwick.  At the start of the first moto, the crafty veteran launched off the gate and rounded the first turn in second place.  Soon afterwards the race leader would go down, giving Short the lead, which he held until late in the race.  He would be overtaken late in the race by eventual race winner Ryan Dungey but Andrew still managed a solid second place finish, his best of the season.  In the second moto, Shorty didn't get the same jump and had to work his way through the field.  He would end up 16th and with 2-16 moto scores, Short earned 5th overall and now sits 9th in the point standings.

Tyla Rattray had to work hard for his finishes at Southwick.  The South African sand specialist found himself the victim of a first turn pileup in moto one.  Rattray wound up battling his way to 10th after starting outside the top 30 after the first lap.  He went down in another first turn pileup in the second moto and once again put his head down and worked his way from outside the top twenty to earn 8th.  Rattray ended up 6th overall with 10-8 moto scores and now sits 7th in the point standings.

Phil Nicoletti showed everyone at Southwick that he belongs in the top ten by posting yet another top ten performance.  Phil earned 6th in moto one and 13th in moto two for 7th overall.  Nicoletti sits 11th in the 450MX point standings.

SCOTT goggle athlete Trey Canard got a great jump off the gate in the first moto and was running inside the top five when he swapped going off a small jump and was thrown from his bike.  Trey wasn't able to continue and was credited with 35th.  Trey came out with guns blazing in the second moto, getting yet another solid top five start.  Trey would go on to finish 5th in moto two, and with 35-5 moto scores, he earned 15th overall.  Trey still maintains 4th overall in the 450MX point standings.

250MX Class

In the 250 class, defending champion Blake Baggett had a great first moto.  Baggett got a great start and worked his way into a 2nd place finish.  The second moto didn't go as well for the 250 class vet and he found himself buried in the pack.  Blake dug deep and worked his way up to 8th by the end of the moto.  His scores earned him 4th overall and moved him into 3rd place in the point standings.

250MX class rookie Adam Cianciarulo, in his second professional race ever, had a consistent day and earned the first professional top ten finish of his career.  Adam earned 9-12 moto scores, which gave him 9th overall for the day.  After only two rounds raced, Adam has moved into the top 20 in points with 19th place.

Justin Hill found himself deep in the pack in both motos and had to work for each position.  Hill managed a 14th in the first moto and a 10th in the second for 11th overall.  Hill maintains 11th in the point standings.

Darryn Durham was hoping to replicate his performance from the previous round, where he earned a career-best placing in the Nationals.  Unfortunately, Durham was caught up in first turn crashes in both motos and had to battle through the field.  Durham did just that, passing to 11th in the first moto and 14th in the second.  His efforts earned him 13th overall and moved him into 15th place in the 250MX point standings.

The next Lucas Oil Pro Motocross round is set for July 6 at Red Bud in Michigan.
