SCOTT Moto Weekend Vision: Budds Creek

The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series got back under way last weekend at the famed Budds Creek raceway for round 5 of the 12 round tour.  Riders were eager to get back to action after enjoying a weekend off from racing.  The picturesque Budds Creek facility was perfectly manicured and prepped for the intense racing action that was to take place.

250MX Class

SCOTT goggle athlete Blake Baggett finally raced the way everyone knew he could.  The defending champion has had a slow start to his season with an injured wrist slowing him down.  Luckily, the week off from racing seemed to be exactly what the champ needed, as he took the overall 250MX class victory via 1-2 moto scores.  In the first moto, Baggett started outside the top 5 and quickly began to work his way forward.  By the halfway mark, he had worked his way into 3rd and was applying pressure to the race leaders.  Blake was able to make the pass for the lead and quickly checked out for the win.  In the second moto, Blake rounded the first lap in 2nd right behind his teammate Darryn Durham.  Blake was able to get around Durham late in the race but only after being passed by the race winner, Eli Tomac.  Blake's second place finish combined with his first moto win was enough to earn him the overall on the day.  Baggett remains 4th in the point standings.

Darryn Durham had his best race of the season at Budds Creek.  In the first moto, Durham didn't get the start he wanted and had to work his way forward the entire moto.  Durham was able to work his way up to 13th by the checkered flag.  Durham nailed the start in the second moto and found himself passing for the lead on the first lap.  Durham's speed was on point as he was able to hold off a hard-changing Blake Baggett for most of the moto.  A late race charge by Eli Tomac caught Durham off guard and a slight bobble allowed both Tomac and Baggett by.  Nevertheless, Durham's solid 3rd place finish definitely establishes him as a class frontrunner.  Darryn ended up 7th overall via 13-3 moto scores.  He now sits 16th in points.

Justin Hill was amazingly consistent at Budds Creek.  The 250MX class rookie battled hard in the first moto to hold on for 10th.  In the second moto, Hill had to work his way forward from 18th place and climbed into 10th by the end of the moto.  With 10-10 moto scores, Hill earned 10th overall on the day.  He now sits 11th in the point standings.

Originally slated to make his pro debut at Hangtown, rookie Adam cianciarulo finally lined up on the gate at Budds Creek after recovering from a battle with salmonella poisoning.  Adam didn't miss a beat and nearly holeshot his first pro race.  Cianciarulo ran with the frontrunners for most of the moto before finishing in 14th.  In the second 250MX moto, Adam found himself at the back of the pack after a slow jump off the gate and was listed in 37th place after the first lap.  Cianciarulo wasn't about to settle for a back of the pack finish and began charging forward, working his way up to 17th by the checkered flag.  Adam's 13-17 scores earned him 16th overall for the day.

Privateer Dillan Epstein has been consistently finishing within the top 15-20 riders at each round prior to Budds Creek.

450MX Class

SCOTT goggle athlete Trey Canard finally found the podium after having his best outdoor race this year.  Trey ran just outside the top 5 in the first moto, finishing in 6th.  Trey had a better start in the second moto and found himself in 3rd early on in the race.  Trey was able to hold off pressure from multiple riders and crossed the finish line in 4th.  Canard's 4-6 moto scores earned him 3rd overall on the day.  Trey maintains 4th in the 450MX point standings.

Phil Nicoletti finally broke into the top ten at Budds Creek.  Phil earned a solid 15th in the first moto.  In the second moto, Phil charged his way to 6th and with that top ten finish he earmed 9th overall for the day.  Phil is 13th in the 450Mx points chase.

Andrew Short rebounded this weekend after a couple of disappointing races.  The SCOTT goggle athlete finished 12th in the first moto and then would go on to finish 9th in the second.  Short's 12-9 moto scores earned him 10th overall on the day.  Short sits 12th in the 450MX point standings.

The next round of Pro Motocross heads to Southwick, MA on June 29.

Charlie Mullins Wins National Enduro 7

SCOTT goggle athlete Charlie Mullins won his 6th National Enduro race of the season last weekend at the Foggy Mountain National Enduro held in Blain, Pennsylvania.  With this win, Mullins further extends his points lead in the series and now sits 36 points ahead of 2nd place with three rounds remaining in the series.  The next round of the National Enduro series is scheduled for July 28 in Cross Fork, PA.
