Utah National

Situated just outside Salt Lake City, UT, Miller Motorsports Park was the site of the first-ever Lucas Oil Pro Motocross race in the state.  The penultimate round of the 12 race series took place under sunny skies and high temperatures.  SCOTT athletes in both the 250MX and 450MX classes rose to the occasion, with two riders grabbing spots on the podium and many others grabbing top ten finishes.

250MX Class

The 250 series defending champion Blake Baggett came out firing in Utah, grabbing spots on the podium in both motos.  In the first moto, Baggett came from behind to grab second place after starting just outside the top ten.  In moto two, after getting a mid-pack start, Baggett went to work and battled through the pack.  He eventually made a last lap pass to snag second, which gave him second overall for the day.  Baggett maintains 4th overall in the series heading into the last round.

250MX class rookie Adam Cianciarulo has had an up and down season.  After missing the first three rounds due to illness, Adam has steadily been getting back to top form and it showed in Utah.  Adam posted the second fastest time in practice and took that momentum into the first moto, where he rode most of the race in second place.  Adam would succumb to the advances of his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammate Blake Baggett late in the race, but still held on for 3rd place.  In the second moto Adam was collected in a first turn crash and found himself in last place after the first lap.  Refusing to settle for a back-of-the-pack finish, the speedy youngster went to work on the field, passing his way all the way up to an impressive 9th by the moto's end.  With 3-9 moto scores, Cianciarulo earned 4th overall, his best effort to date.  Even after missing a few rounds, Adam finds himself 16th in the point standings.

SCOTT athlete Darryn Durham had a solid day in Utah, showing everyone that the crafty veteran still has what it takes to run at the front of the pack.  In the first moto, DD nailed a top 10 start and ran a solid pace, eventually climbing his way to 8th.  In the second moto, Durham took advantage of a 2nd place start and battled through the rough track conditions to earn 5th by the moto's end.  Darryn earned 6th overall and moved up the point standings to 13th.

Justin Hill has consistently finished inside the top 10 at most of the Outdoor Nationals this summer, and Utah was no exception.  Hill battled his way to 10-14 moto scores for 10th overall for the day.  Hill moved up the 250MX class point standings to 12th.

Martin Davalos ran into a little bad luck in Utah but showed that he has the speed to compete in this year's heavily stacked field.  Martin rocketed out of the gate in the first moto, capturing the holeshot.  Davalos would find himself locked into a 10 rider battle for position, eventually finishing in 11th.  In the second moto, Davalos was victim to an apparent mechanical issue which ended his day prematurely.  Martin would still be credited with 37th in moto 2 and with 11-37 moto scores, he earned 16th overall.  He maintains 14th overall in the point standings.

SCOTT athlete Trey Canard was on fire in Utah.  Canard, seemingly picking up speed towards the end of the series, rode strong all day and landed on the box in both 450MX motos.  In the first moto, Canard got a top 5 start and quickly worked his way into 3rd, where he would eventually finish.  The second moto was more of the same with Canard getting a good jump off the gate and rounding the first turn in the lead group.  Canard helf off advances from several other riders to earn 3rd by the end of the moto.  With 3-3 moto scores, Trey earned the 3rd spot on the podium.  With one round to go, Canard maintains 4th in the 450MX class standings.

Privateer SCOTT athlete Phil Nicoletti has been a pleasant surprise this summer, consistently putting his YZ450F in the top ten.  In Utah, Phil would again surprise everyone with solid 12-8 moto scores, giving the ClubMX rider 8th overall and yet another top ten finish.  Nicoletti holds down 11th in the point standings.

Team BTO sports rider Andrew Short had a strong showing in Utah and looks to be right at home on his KTM.  In the first moto, Short crossed the finish in 11th.  The veteran got a better jump off the gate in the second moto and scored a 9th place finish.  11-9 moto scores earned Short 11th overall for the day.  Shorty sits 7th in the 450MX class point standings.

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider Tyla Rattray has been steadily improving after suffering a midseason injury to his ribs.  Rattray went to work and nailed an impressive 4th by the end of the first moto.  In the second, Rattray again found himself in the lead group and was running 5th midway through the moto.  Unfortunately, an apparent mechanical derailed Tyla's quest for a top 5 and he would be credited with 25th.  4-25 moto scores earned Tyla 12th overall though and he now sits 14th in the point standings heading to the final round next weekend in Lake Elsinore, CA.
