SCOTT Sports Athletes Dominate Across the West

03 July 2013

The weekend of June 28th was a busy one for SCOTT Sports running athletes.  From California, to Colorado, to Oregon,SCOTT athletes took the West by storm. With T2 Kinabalus and Race Rockers on foot, Ian Sharman, Meghan Arbogast, Joseph Gray and Kevin Everett all had tremendous races full of personal bests, podium toppers, and course records.

WESTERN STATES

SCOTT athletes at the Western States 100

On Saturday, June 28th, three SCOTT athletes competed in the Wester States 100 Mile Endurance Run.  Racing against blistering temperatures and rigorous climbing and descents, SCOTT athletes pushed themselves and their bodies past the point of exhaustion.

Ian Sharman:  Competing in his 4th Western States, Ian entered the race wary of his ankle after sustaining a mild sprain in his training weeks leading up to the race.  Proving that racing can be just as much mental as physical, Ian pushed past the discomfort in his ankle and powered through the 102 degree high temperatures to an impressive 4th place finish.  Finishing the race in 16 hours and 20 minutes, Ian and his T2 Kinabalus oscillated between staggering paces of 6:30 minute/miles to cool baths in the river to control heat.  Altogether, Ian ran a smart race, getting him across the finish line in one piece and looking forward to his next race.  On Saturday, July 20th, Ian competes in the 2nd leg of his 100 mile Grand Slam in the Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Run.  For more in depth race coverage from Ian, visit his blog.

Meghan Arbogast:  A seasoned competitor on the Western States 100 course, Meghan competed in her 7th Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run last Saturday.  Aiming to run a smart race, focused only on her effort and the miles ahead of her, Meghan turned in a solid time of 19 hours and 30 minutes, putting her across the finish line in 18th place and 10th amongst all women.  2013 marked Meghan's best place finish and 4th best time.  Considering the intense heat and growing level of competitors, Meghan's accomplishments on this course are nothing short of amazing.  Meghan will next compete in the White River 50 Mille Run in Crystal Mountain, WA on July 27.

Jeremy Humphrey:  Jeremy headed to Squaw Valley on a mission to compete in his first Western States 100.  While maintaining strong position in the pack for 78 miles, ranging between 13th and 8th place, Jeremy had to retire from the race.

The 5th Annual Gold Rush Gold Rush Race was held in Victor, CO on Saturday, June 28th.  Running through the paved roads, dirt roads, and mountain trails of Victor, CO, racers climb over 1,000 vertical feet and experience the views of the "The World's Greatest Gold Camp."  Joseph Gray, clad in his favorite Race Rockers, stormed the course and finished in 54 minutes and 40 seconds, a new course record for the Gold Rush.  Joe is in training for the USA Mountain Championships in New Hampshire on July 21st.

PACIFIC CREST 1/2 TRIATHLON: KEVIN EVERETT RACES TO VICTORY

Kevin Everett

After recovering from an illness that took him out of his local Boise, ID Ironman, Kevin Everett took to the Pacific Crest Long Course Triathlon in Sunriver, OR.  Featuring beautiful scenery through high mountain lakes and a bike course that circumnavigates snow-covered Mt. Bachelor, the Long Course Tri includes a 1.2 mile swim, 56.3 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run.  After a quick swim took him to the front of the pack, Kevin raced solo the rest of the race to take home his 3rd consecutive victory with a total time of 4 hours and 28 minutes.

iRUNFAR.com REVIEWS THE T2 KINABALU: A Shoe That Can Relate

"When I first pulled them out of their box, I knew it was going to be an uphill battle.  The mykonos blue, fluorescent yellow, and safety orange combined make the Kinabalus one of the most colorful pairs of shoes that I have ever owned.  PAir that with a white midsole, a Lichtenstein-esque shading on the upper, and you have the most eye-grabbing pair of shoes I have seen in any store.  But, not only do they win the hearts of those who are a bit more "stylish" (I use teenagers who spend too much time at the mall as a litmus test), they are a profoundly good ride out in the mountains."
