Stephan Wenk wins Silver in Zofingen

15 May 2012

Last Sunday was the Intervall Duathlon in Zofingen which also hosted the Swiss Duathlon championships. The starting list was very promising with names like Ronnie Schildknecht (6 time IM-winner & 4th IM-Hawaii 2008) and Reto Hug (3 times at Olympics & Triathlon European champ 99, 2nd tri worlds 06, 3rd tri worlds 08). In a realistic view there was only one spot left on the podium…

Stephan Wenk RunningThe race format was quite special with three run splits (4 km each) and two bike splits (16 km each). Stephan started the race in MK4’s and tried to find his rhythm to keep throughout the competition. On the first split he lost just a few meters on the leaders, but kept in touch with third place. On his bike he was able to ride with the other guys without pushing too hard. Back in the transition area two fresh pairs of Race Rockers were waiting for him for the 2nd respectively the 3rd running split where he could make some ground on the other competitors. As the race progressed he could keep his rivals at arm’s length and came in third overall and gained the silver medal!

Stephan WechselzoneWell done and congrats to Stephan! In a very tough race he produced some outstanding performances which showed how well his taper and his training camp in Giverola/Spain has helped dramatically to improve his performance. His next race is already confirmed: He’s going to chase this Thursday the European elite mountain runners at the “Montée du Grand Ballon” in Alsace/France.
