There was great success for team SCOTT at the Tour de Tirol last weekend

08 October 2012
Athletes had to battle it out in races of 10k, Marathon and Half Marathon distances over 3 days to determine who would become 2012 Tour de Tirol overall champion.

Team SCOTT athlete Adam Kovacs (HUN) got off to a flying start winning the 10km race on Friday, with fellow Team SCOTT athlete Stephan Wenk a creditable 4th place.  The marathon on Saturday was won by Patrick Wieser of Switzerland with New Zealander Jonathan Wyatt 2nd and Adam 3rd.

There was everything to play for in Sunday’s half marathon.  Although Patrick Wieser was in a commanding lead, Adam had the opportunity to snatch 2nd place from running legend Jonathan Wyatt if he could make up the almost 5 minute deficit separating them.  Despite very wet conditions, the race was an exciting climax to the weekend with Adam winning ahead of both his rivals in a fantastic time of 1:08:28 – a full minute ahead of overall winner Patrick Wieser and almost 5 minutes ahead of Jonathan Wyatt.  The win wasn’t enough to deny Jonathan Wyatt his 2nd place on the podium but it was a close run thing with only 40 seconds separating them which meant that Adam claimed the 3rd place overall.  Team SCOTT were also delighted with Stephan Wenk’s great run of 1.12.21 to take 3rd place in the half marathon.
Team SCOTT had more to celebrate in the women’s races with Céline Lafaye (FRA) coming 2nd overall behind female Tour de Tirol champion Jasmin Nunige (SUI).

We congratulate all finishers for their outstanding performances at these races and hope to see you again next year.
