Adrien Briffod at the European Triathlon Championships
Scott-sponsored Adrien Briffod finished a magnificent 15th place out of 66 junior triathletes in his first-ever international competition on April 21st.
One of only two Swiss Juniors selected for the 2012 European Triathlon Championships in Eliat, Israel, this was Adrien’s first taste of international racing as an individual. Last year he was part of the Swiss delegation that competed in the European Youth Triathlon European Championships which was raced in teams.
After an agitated sea swim, our triathlete came out of the water in 47th position. But he quickly made up ground on the 20km bike leg, recording the third fastest time and arriving in the bike-run transition area with the large leading group. A quick change allowed him to set off on the run in the top ten. Covering the 5km run course in 16m30, he crossed the finish line in 15th place. His overall time of 57m09 was 53s off the winning time of Italy’s Matthias Steinwandter.
“I am really happy with this result for my first individual international competition. I can work at quite a lot more before the European World Cup events,” commented Adrien after the race.
