Robin Gemperle wins the 2023 Atlas Mountain Race

13 February 2023

It only took him 3 days, 20 hours and 15 minutes to crush 1,334 hard kilometers across the Atlas Mountains.

A massive performance on a longer and harder course than the previous year in very difficult conditions

The Atlas Mountain Race is a fixed route, unsupported, single-stage cycling race that starts in Marrakesh, crosses the Moroccan Atlas before taking riders through the Anti-Atlas and on to Agadir. The clock does not stop and there are no prizes. It follows gravel, single and double track and old colonial pistes that have long been forgotten and fallen into disrepair. There is very little tarmac. There is some walking, and at times there is great distances between resupply points.

Robin rolled into Essaouira aboard his SCOTT Spark RC WC dusty, tired but no doubt victorious.

So, what does it take to win an ultra?!

For Robin it was (some) sleep, no crashes, only one puncture, one tagine, and one omelette. Seems easy enough.

Chapeau Robin, chapeau!
