SCOTT Women in Force at the 2018 Road Worlds !

02 October 2018

SCOTT is proud to be supporting extraordinary female athletes as they achieve the extraordinary. Annemiek Van Vleuten and Laura Stigger both put on a show this past week in Innsbruck.

The Road World Championship in Innsbruck has been the stage for some historical moments, one of them being Annemiek Van Vleuten's (Netherlands) indisputable victory on the individual time trial but also young talent Laura Stigger (Austria) surprising everyone including herself with a Gold Medal in her second road race ever and only two weeks after winning gold at the Cross-Country World Championships.

Annemiek Van Vleuten Retains her TT Rainbow Stripes

Dutch athlete Annemiek Van Vleuten defends her Individual Time Trial title with back-to-back wins and a clear 29 second gap on 2nd place Anna Van der Breggen.

This result adds to an already impressive season to-date, including three stage victories, the overall at both the Giro Rosa and Boels Rental Ladies Tour and a win at La Course by Le Tour de France

A Dutch podium! Annemiek Van Vleuten gave it all to finish 29 seconds ahead of 2nd place Anna Van der Breggen. Ellen Van Dijk came 3rd.

“If you’re here starting, you just want to win the jersey and I know how nice it is to ride and train in a beautiful jersey. (…) I felt like I had to start fast and then die until the end, which is not nice to do. I was also a little in trouble in the second part, but that’s how you know you had a good time trial.”

In the Elite Road Race, Annemiek had a bad crash and fractured her knee. However, she still managed to pull it off to an impressive 7th place! We wish her a good and speedy recovery.

Talented Laura Stigger Doubles It Up!

After her second Junior Cross-Country World Champion title in Lenzerheide just a few weeks ago, Austrian bike phenomenon Laura Stigger doubles it up on home soil with a World Champion title on the road! In her second road race ever, she rode a very clever race and took the win in the final sprint just a few centimeters ahead of another SCOTT rider Marie Le Net, from France.

“This morning I didn’t believe I had any chance of winning because it’s only my second road race. I just wanted to have fun, and now I’m the World Champion. It’s unbelievable.”

Laura Stigger takes the win in the final sprint in front of her home crowd in Tirol, Austria.

Already 2 times a Junior World Champion and 5 times European Champion on her mountain bike, Laura Stigger also won every single cross-country race she entered this year. With this win in Innsbruck she adds another major title to an already impressive cycling career.

Her next race will come at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, where she will again compete in both disciplines.

Amanda Spratt Takes Silver in the Road Race

In the Elite Road Race, Aussie rider Amanda Spratt  goes home with Silver. She showed a smart race strategy, being the only one able to keep up with winner Anna Van der Breggen until the final climb. The pair soloed for 40km, but Van der Breggen was too strong and went ahead, finally extending her lead by 00:03:42 on Spratty. Behind, the gaps also extended with Tatiana Guderzo (ITA) claiming the final medal 00:05:26sec adrift.

"I just tried to hold her wheel as much as I could, which was maybe a little mistake. I probably could have stayed with her a little longer than I did but she was on another level today. She was so, so strong… I’m definitely happy with the silver medal. I can be very proud of this.”
