Scott athlete Ryan Standish heads out on the road again for Episode 2 of Local Loops. In this edition Ryan hits the road and heads to Los Angeles to meet up with Pro gravel racer and new mom Isabel “Iz” King and find out more about her Local loop.

New mom and Scott athlete Iz King calls Los Angeles home, and with the Santa Monica Mountains just outside her door, it's easy to see why. After years of living in LA and logging countless training miles, Iz knows these roads and trails like the back of her hand. So, when Ryan had the chance to connect with Iz and experience her favorite Local Loop, he didn't hesitate.

Life looks a little different for Iz these days. Over the past year, she welcomed baby Hazel to the family, taking on the new adventure of motherhood while continuing to race at a professional level. In fact, shortly after filming this episode, Iz lined up for her fifth Unbound Gravel. Like any new parent, she's learning that every day brings a new challenge, and balancing training with family life often means staying flexible and ready to pivot when plans change.

Even with the best-laid plans, not every ride starts on time or goes exactly as expected now that Hazel is at the center of Iz's world. Sometimes you have to change the route, shorten the day, or simply embrace the unexpected. In true Iz fashion, she takes it all in stride, with the same smile and positive energy that has made her one of gravel racing's most popular personalities.

“I’ve quickly learned that parenting is unpredictable and you have to be ok rerouting depending on what the day throws at you. Before having a baby, when I finished my training, I was done for the day. Now, when I get home, as soon as I walk through the door, my next job starts again, and it’s arguably more tiring.”

Leaving the hustle of Los Angeles behind, they make their way into the Santa Monica Mountains, where things don't exactly go to plan. But that doesn't matter — nothing can dampen the stoke when you're out riding bikes with good friends.

Isabel “Iz” King is one of the most recognizable riders in gravel racing, but it's not just the bright orange kit that makes her stand out, it's the energy she brings everywhere she goes. From local group rides in Los Angeles to long solo training days and the biggest races on the calendar, Iz has a way of making every ride feel like a celebration of bikes.

Race weekends are no different. While many riders disappear into their routines, Iz always makes time for the people who make the gravel scene so special. Whether she's catching up with friends, meeting fans, or encouraging someone lining up for their very first race, she reminds everyone that gravel is about more than results. She knows every rider has their own story, their own goals, and countless unseen hours of hard work behind them, and she's genuinely excited to celebrate every finish line, podium, and personal victory right alongside them.

RYAN STANDISH

The road tripper

Ryan Standish is always looking for his next adventure, but for him, it's just as much about the people as it is the ride. Through Local Loops, Ryan travels to the hometowns of fellow Scott athletes, discovering the roads and trails that shaped them while bringing the Scott community along for the journey.

Adventure-driven and endlessly curious, Ryan has lined up at nearly every major mountain bike and gravel race imaginable. Known as much for his personality as his riding, he's become a fan favorite and a familiar face at some of the biggest cycling events in the U.S.

More recently, Ryan has shifted his focus from chasing race results to pursuing ambitious personal adventures. From linking Utah's Kokopelli Trail and White Rim Trail in a single 300-plus-mile push to exploring the stories behind the people who inspire him, Ryan is always searching for the next experience worth sharing. You can follow one of those epic adventures in his latest film, One Year Older.

ESCAPING THE CITY

Ryan and Iz King rolled out from local Scott dealer Sunday Cycles in Santa Monica and headed into the mountains for what is normally a three-hour loop. The route quickly trades pavement for fire roads before climbing nearly 3,000 feet to the legendary Dirt Mulholland—yes, it's that Mulholland Drive, just a little dustier and with fewer luxury cars. This ride highlights just how close the wilderness of the Santa Monica Mountains is to LA and how quickly you can escape the city.

Iz and Ryan traversed Dirt Mulholland, heading toward one of Iz's favorite trails for a descent back to the coast. But thanks to fire mitigation work happening that day, the trail was closed, and the pair had to pivot to a new plan. That detour took them back across Mulholland and down some of the area's more popular trails before winding through the streets of LA's hillside neighborhoods and eventually making their way to the beach. From there, they cruised the coast back to Santa Monica so Ryan could get his beach time in.

“I was super impressed with the gravel riding in LA. I'd only ever ridden the beach path and was pretty skeptical on the quality of riding in the city. I was so wrong, and Iz showed me a great time in the Santa Monica mountains and feel like we just barely scratched the surface of the riding to do out there.”

THE BIKES

The Addict Gravel is just as comfortable leading the charge at the front of a gravel race as it is disappearing into the backcountry on your next big adventure. From the sandy road of Sea Otter Classic to the chunky back roads of Arkansas at Big Sugar, and even the singletrack of the Cascades during Oregon Trail Gravel, SCOTT athletes have put this bike through just about everything. No matter where the ride goes, the Addict Gravel is ready for anything and capable of everything.

We even heard it found its way to the top step at one of America's biggest crit race. Like we said... it's capable of just about anything.

Ryan Standish's Addict Gravel RC is built with a mix of Shimano GRX—Shimano's dedicated gravel groupset—and a few mountain bike components, including a wireless XT rear derailleur. Paired with a Wolf Tooth single chainring up front, the setup gives Ryan a huge gear range that's ready for everything from steep backcountry climbs to long gravel days. It's a build that strikes the perfect balance between durability, performance, and style.

Iz King took a slightly different approach. She's still riding her 2025 Addict Gravel RC colorway—a paint job so good she couldn't bring herself to retire it. Like Ryan's, her bike features a Shimano drivetrain, but with a blend of GRX and DURA-ACE components. Iz opts for a double chainring up front, giving her a similar gear range while offering finer gear steps for the long road miles that often connect her favorite gravel routes.

Don't worry though, while her beloved 2025 bike stars in this episode of Local Loops, a freshly built 2026 Addict Gravel RC made its debut in the mud at this year's Unbound.
