HOW DOES D3O® MATERIAL WORK?

MIPS® Safety System
The brain is typically more sensitive to rotational motion than linear motion because it has shear properties similar to water or gel. When different parts of the brain move relative to each other because of rotational motion, the tissues can stretch, which can cause concussions or other brain injuries.
Rotational motion is a common cause of concussions and more severe brain injury in oblique hits to the head. The Mips® safety system consists of a low friction layer mounted inside the helmet. In a crash, the low friction layer is designed to move slightly inside the helmet to help redirect forces away from the head. This is intended to help reduce the risk of brain injury.
A SAFETY SYSTEM THAT MIMICS THE BRAIN
Unlike traditional helmets, which are mainly designed and tested for straight impacts, the Mips® safety system’s low-friction layer mimics the brain’s own system for protection against rotational motion.

Traditional helmets are designed for straight impacts, but most impacts are angled.
The low friction layer is designed to reduce the rotational force of angled impacts.
360° Pure Sound
On the mountain, safety is paramount, and being able to hear what is happening around you can save your life. This is why we have invested in R&D to develop 360° Pure Sound technology, a specifically-shaped inner piece in our ear pads, surrounded by sound transparent fabric. It not only let you hear better, but also localize sound more accurately.
Dual Active Venting System
Our most advanced venting system allows the user to carefully regulate the airflow through the helmet for optimal ventilation in any weather condition. This is achieved through two easy-to-use sliders that allow the ventilation to be fine-tuned at the front and top of the helmet.
WRAS 2 Fit System
The WRAS Fit System offers full adjustability to ensure a customized and comfortable fit for your head shape. Adjust the height of the rear ergonomic cradle and dial in the perfect pressure using the micro adjustment dial. WRAS is forseen of a big comolded wheel that makes it easy to grab and adjust with gloves. WRAS ensures your helmet fits securly and comfortably.
