MOTOCROSS MXGP OF LATVIA 2016
GP6: Latvia (Kegums) - Top five for Petrov and Ferrandis
Petar Petrov and Dylan Ferrandis both scored top five results in Kegums (Latvia) home of the sixth round of the series. The Bulgarian did his best GP so far, while the Frenchman did a strong come back after two months far from the tracks. The Kawasaki pair was on fire in Kegums, and both riders nearly missed the podium on this rough and sandy track home of the Latvian GP since seven years now. Both Petar and Dylan had to fight in the pack during one race to secure their top five position. “I got a fourth overall which is not so bad, even if I think that I could have finished second in the second race. There was a crash in the first corner but I went inside and nearly holeshot the race. In the first race I crashed at the start and had to work to come back to sixth. It’s frustrating to finish fourth or fifth in the GPs; I've just missed podiums and now it’s time to get on the box. We’ll go in Germany with a lot of confidence; everything is very good, we’re consistent and we didn’t make any mistakes. The track was very bumpy in the second moto, so it was quite easy to make mistakes but I rode smooth. We’re now fourth in the standings and that’s good” said Petar. Just riding his bike twice in the week after he received the ‘green light’ from his doctors, Dylan Ferrandis impressed everyone on this track with a fifth position in the qualifying race. He repeat this performance during the first race, and did even better when he came back from last to sixth in the next one. “It was a tough weekend. On Saturday we worked on the setup of the bike as we had no possibilities to do this during the last two months. Sunday was not so bad; my starts were not so good but in the first moto I rode smooth and got a fifth. I was a little too optimistic in the first corner and crashed, but I did my best to come back from last to sixth. After two months without riding I feel tired at the end of a tough weekend, but I have no regrets; we know that this track is very rough, but it was my decision to come here. The first race after a break is always difficult; I’m sure that next weekend will be better,” revealed an exhausted Dylan after the race.In the MXGP class Clement Desalle had his worst weekend of the season, as he hit the gate in race one and then was taken out by another rider in race two. Shaun Simpson recovered from a bad start in race one to get a ninth overall, and it’s in the European classes that Scott Athletes celebrate a podium. Danish Thomas Kjer Olsen dominates the EMX250 with a double win, and he’s the new leader of the series while American Darian Sanayei got his first ever podium in Europe with a third position. In the 125 class, Zachary Pichon the son of double World Champion Mickael did an impressive ride, finishing second as he’s only 15 years old.The GP series will continue next weekend in Teutschenthal (Germany)
