More Than a Bike Shop: MustAsheville Bikes Supports Cyclists and Saves Dogs

15 May 2025

Nestled next to the Bent Creek trail system, MustAsheville is committed to elevating its thriving cycling community—while also making a difference through local dog rescue. We spoke with owner Jeff Stone to learn how the shop supports riders of all levels, from last-minute trail repairs to pre-ride fueling.

While they carry a wide range of bikes at various price points, MustAsheville is intentional about what they stock—only offering products they’d ride themselves or recommend to family and friends. Beyond great bikes, they offer expert repairs, affordable rentals, and professional fit services. If you’re in the Asheville area, you must swing by MustAsheville.

WHAT SETS YOUR STORE APART?

We are the approachable bike shop. While we enjoy geeking out with experienced riders, we also love educating and fostering stoke in new riders just as much. We ask as many questions as we can to understand how our customers will use their bike and what kind of experience they’re looking for. We use that information to guide them toward the equipment that will optimize their ride. Our focus is always on how we can get someone into the sport—or keep them riding.

WHAT DO YOU SPECIALIZE IN?

Being next to one of the most popular trail systems in the area, we specialize in mountain and gravel bikes—but we’re more than happy to help with commuter or road bikes, too. We carry a variety of bikes across different price points and even take trade-ins.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT WORKING WITH SCOTT?

SCOTT has been with us from the start, and it’s been great working with them. They offer high-quality products with the latest technologies to enhance the rider experience. TwinLoc technology, in particular, is perfect for our diverse terrain—after all, what fun is a long descent if you’ve burned all your energy on the climb?

SCOTT also really stepped up for our community after Hurricane Helene hit last fall. The storm devastated our trail systems, and our local trail-building organization, Pisgah Area SORBA, needed help getting our favorite riding spots back open. SCOTT quickly donated a Patron bike to help us raise funds. The money raised helped Pisgah SORBA purchase equipment to clear the trails and get riders back out there.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE ABOUT MUSTASHEVILLE?

The only thing we love more than our customers is their dogs. My wife and I have been involved in the rescue community for years—we’ve helped raise money, fostered, coordinated, and of course, adopted rescue dogs. We welcome furry friends with ear scratches, belly rubs, and treats.
