SCOTT Moto Weekend Vision: High Point

11 June 2013

Round 4 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series took place over the weekend just outside of Mt. Morris, PA at the famous High Point Raceway.  Torrential rains soaked the track for days leading up to the event, causing many to fear that a mud race was imminent.  Luckily for race fans and competitors alike, the rains subsided and by the first moto, the conditions went from dismal to near perfect.

450MX Class

Tyla Rattray

SCOTT goggle athlete Tyla Rattray came out swinging at High Point, posting a 4th place finish in the opening 450MX class moto.  Tyla backed up his first moto by getting another solid jump off the gate and rounding the first turn with the lead pack.  Rattray would go on once again to finish in 4th and with his 4-4 moto scores, he earned a coveted spot on the podium with 3rd.  This podium marks his first in the 450MX class and moves Tyla into 7th overall in the point series.

Trey Canard

Trey Canard's first moto didn't go as well as he wanted, as he suffered from a slow jump off the gate.  Trey was still able to claw through and work his way into a respectable 7th by the moto's end.  In the second moto, Canard got the start he needed and found himself just behind the lead group.  Trey rode smart and came away with 5th, earning 6th overall on the day.  Trey now sits 4th in the point standings.

Phil Nicoletti

Club MX-trained Phil Nicoletti has been quietly flirting with a top ten finish all season.  In the first moto, Phil negotiated the difficult track and moved himself just into the top ten in 9th by the checkered flag.  Looking to capitalize on his first moto score, Phil got a great jump off the gate in moto two but quickly found trouble going down only a few corners into the race.  Nicoletti got back on his bike and dug deep, working his way through the field until the end and eventually found himself in 14th.  Phil's 9-14 scores earned him 11th overall on the day and he now finds himself 12th in points.

Andrew Short

Andrew Short had trouble in the first moto which relegated him to 13th by the end.  Unfortunately, Short's second moto wouldn't go better; a crash kept him from finishing in the top 20.  Short's 13-30 moto scores did, however, nab him a respectable 16th overall score.  Short sits 11th in the point standings.

250MX Class

Blake Baggett

250MX series defending champion Blake Baggett has had a slow start to the season due to a sore wrist from an injury sustained preseason. Baggett has been digging deep and has been a podium threat in every moto he's raced.  At High Point, the SCOTT goggle athlete had a great first moto, finishing 4th.  A id-moto crash in the second moto prevented Baggett from getting into the top five but he was still able to hold on for an 8th place finish.  Baggett's 4-8 moto scores earned him 5th overall and he sits 4th in the 250MX class point standings.

Martin Davalos

Martin Davalos had to work hard for his moto scores in PA.  The 250 class veteran negotiated the tricky course in moto one to earn 14th.  In the second moto, Davalos got a better start and it showed, as he finished in 10th.  Martin's 14-10 mscores gave him 12th overall for the day and allowed him to move up one spot in the points to 11th.

Justin Hill

SCOTT goggle athlete Justin Hill was consistent at High Point, finishing the first moto just outside the top ten in 11th.  In the second moto, Hill earned 13th and took 13th overall just behind his teammate Martin Davalos.  Hill is now 13th in the point standings.

Darryn Durham

Darryn Durham has spun countless laps on the High Point track as he grew up nearby and considers the race his hometown track.  Curham was hoping to overcome his recent injury and come away with a podium finish.  In the first moto, Darryn raced inside the top ten all moto long and finished 8th.  In the second moto, while putting in a solid ride, Durham went down and would not be able to finish the race.  He was credited with 34th for the moto.  Darryn's 8-34 moto scores gave him 14th overall and he maintains 16th in the point standings.

Dillan Epstein

Dillan Epstein has been consistently finishing within the top 15 in each round thus far.  In the first moto, Dillan continued his consistent run and took 15th.  Unfortunately, in the second moto, Epstein had troubles and was unable to finish the race.  He ended his day with 15-36 moto scores, which was still good enough to earn a top 20 finish with a 19th.  Epstein is 17th in the point standings.

WMX

Taylor Higgins

SCOTT goggle athlete and women's motocross class competitor Taylor Higgins landed on the podium for the second time this season, finishing with 5-3 moto scores for 3rd overall.  Taylor sits 3rd in points with one round to go in the WMX series.

The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series takes a week off and will resume June 22nd in Maryland.
