Jeremy Humphrey wins the Bear 100 in the SCOTT T2 Kinabalu

14 October 2013

October 11, 2013 - It all began on a crisp fall morning in Logan, Utah.  Three hundred racers and their devoted supporters gathered in a quaint park preparing to run one of the more difficult ultramarathons, the Bear 100.

17 hours and 56 minutes, 100 miles and 21,986 feet of climbing later, SCOTT Sports’ athlete Jeremy Humphrey was the first to cross the finish line at the Bear 100.  On his feet were his trusty, albeit muddy and battered, SCOTT T2 Kinabalus.

Sideways freezing rain, a scantily marked course, and a sluggish herd of cattle were just a few of the obstacles in the 100 mile loop that traverses the Wasatch and Bear River ranges.  Boasting the maximum protection and traction at minimal weight, Jeremy was especially pleased to be in his SCOTT T2 Kinabalus when he reached a perilous climb in the final miles of the race.  “It had been ATV'ed by hunters all day, leaving only a packed ice track that I could barely walk up without crampons.  I had to kick the edges of my Kinabalu's into the crud to get purchase for every step.”

Despite everything, he never lost his lead to Karl Meltzer, who brought home second place, and was even cheered on by a pack of raccoons for the final mile.  His wife Brandi, friend Matt, and his SCOTT Hamahama Jacket were there to greet him at the finish.

Jeremy is headed back to his home in McCall, Idaho, to recuperate and kick off hunting season.  He plans on running another race before the year’s end and he will do it with the support of SCOTT Sports.
