Source from www.tourdetirol.com An extremely challenging race, the Tour de Tirol kicks off with a fast-paced 10km race on Friday evening. Saturday sees the 42km Kaiser Marathon take place on the tough trails around the “Wilder Kaiser”. Less experienced competitors would do well to try and stick with the many mountain running specialists taking part in this gruelling race. For the finale on Sunday, speed is the order of the day once again for a 21km half marathon… The "Tour de Tirol" is a unique event with the 3 different race formats spanning 3 days. The number of participants is progressively increasing as word spreads of the stunning scenery and first class organisation. The event’s reputation is such that European mountain running icons such as Martin Cox, Gerd Frick and Marc Lauenstein will be taking part. Thomas Bohne from Germany, recently 5th at the Morenic Trail (110km) in Italy, is another powerful young gun for Team Scott in this race. It is hoped that Scott sponsored athletes will set a speedy tempo in the first race to challenge the overall favourites. However, the very steep gradient at the end of the Kaiser Marathon on Saturday will probably be decisive. Pascal Giguet and his teammates from France will relish the climbs as well as the technical descents. Competition may come from David Girardet, 2nd at this year’s 100k race in Biel, who will be looking forward to the flat and fast tracks. One thing is certain, the athlete who makes it to the podium on Sunday will have displayed brilliance in all 3 races.
