Skiing the Zombie Apocalypse

16 February 2026

Jim Ryan is known for skiing all types of terrain, but what draws him most are steep, technical couloirs with little to no beta. It’s not about the consequences, it’s about the challenge and the problem-solving.

This couloir has more names than known descents. Some call it the “Cabin Couloir.” Others call it “the Zombie Apocalypse.”

The Teton steep skiing OGs call it “Ichiban.” It’s so rarely skied that there’s almost no beta on the line. Very little information exists, and the few who have attempted it have had to figure it out as they go. There’s a reason lines like this are shrouded in mystery.

Last spring, Clayton Herman, Erich Roepke, and Jim Ryan skied it top down. They dropped in committed to the unknown.
