Winter can be the hardest time of year for a cyclist. Trails covered in snow and roads slick with slush and ice – most of us retreat inside or move on to skiing. But for some, the passion doesn’t go away. The desire to escape is stronger in some. And for Libby Caldwell, that desire was huge.
Enjoy the views, while you can.
When she heard about the new Genius ST, it was a bike she wanted to try and feel for herself. Not only that, she wanted to recharge batteries under the desert sun. So a plan was hatched and flights were booked.
Libby departed for Moab, where the sun is plentiful, the trails are legendary and the views are iconic. It also was a perfect testing ground for the Genius given the technical trails, varied trail conditions and punchy climbs – and descents.
Meeting up with Utah native Erik Henrickson, the duo spent the day exploring the Mag 7 network of trails.
“Riding in the desert is just a different feeling. I love pushing my limits on the different terrain and the Genius was the perfect all-arounder for the trails here. Not to mention, it feels GREAT to be out in the sun.” -Libby Caldwell
“In Salt Lake City, I spend more time on my Ransom. This is the first time I rode the new Genius and it absolutely rips. Perfect for the adventure loop we did.”-Erik Henrickson
Libby rode the Contessa Genius ST 910 featuring a Fox 36 Performance Elite Grip 2 Fork, a Fox Float X Nude Piggy Back Integrated Shock, Integrated Syncros Hixon cockpit, SRAM GX drivetrain, and a Maxxis Minion upfront and a Dissector in back on top of a pair of Syncros Revelstoke 2.0 wheels.
Erik was on the Genius ST 920 featuring an Alloy Frame, Rockshox Lyrik, Fox Float X Nude Piggy Back Integrated Shock, a Syncros Hixon 2.0 Alloy bar, an NX/SX mix of drivetrain.
