Kienle kicks off his season with a podium finish at Ironman 70.3 Oceanside
31 March 2014
The Ironman 70.3 Oceanside on the US west coast has hosted strong starting fields in the past years. 2014 wasn't different in this respect: amongst several world champions, the 2008 Olympic champion Jan Frodeno intended to proof his abilities on the semi-Ironman distance after injuries plagued his 2013 season. Early in the swim, Frodeno and last year's winner Andy Potts powered away from the field. During the bike leg Kienle was able to gain time on the leaders and put himself back into contention for a podium finish. On the run, the eventual winner and second place finisher Frodeno and Potts set the pace and kept the strong cyclists at bay. Despite his effort on the bike, Kienle was able to keep a high pace during the run and move himself into third. "I'm happy with my third place finish at IM 70.3 Oceanside and am looking forward to my next race here in the US." said Kienle after his successful start of the 2014 racing season.
