HOW DOES IT WORK?
The membrane is bonded to highly durable outer face textiles and, in many cases, backer textiles. This forms high-performance laminates engineered for their specific uses. To achieve complete waterproofing, the laminate is further reinforced with waterproof seam tape, effectively sealing seams and blocking water from penetrating through stitching. GORE‑TEX’s holistic quality system ensures unparalleled performance. IS GORE-TEX REALLY MORE WATERPROOF?

Water column explained: Imagine a vertical tube filled with water standing on your jacket. A jacket with a 28,000 mm rating could hold a 28-meter-high column of water before leaking.
SHOULD I WASH MY GORE-TEX?
Yes, washing is essential to extend your jacket’s performance and lifespan. GORE-TEX garments are treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish that causes water to bead up and roll off the surface. Over time, exposure to dirt, sunscreen, and wear reduces this effect. Regular washing and drying reactivates the DWR. If water no longer beads, you can reapply DWR using a spray or wash-in treatment.
HOW LONG WILL MY GORE-TEX PRODUCT LAST?
Decades—when properly cared for.
GORE-TEX products are built to be maintained and repaired. Many users report jackets lasting over 10 years.
MY PRODUCT IS DAMAGED—CAN I REPAIR IT?
Yes. For small tears or punctures, use a GORE-TEX waterproof patch to restore protection.
For more permanent repairs, bring your product to an authorized GORE‑TEX repair center. There, your gear will be restored and retested to ensure it remains fully waterproof.
